A 12-year-old student and a 55-year-old middle-aged man were crushed to death by a truck on the Varanasi-Rewa national road on Monday morning.

Mirzapur. A truck crushed a 12-year-old student and a 55-year-old middle-aged man on the Varanasi-Rewa national road on Monday morning in Bami village of Lalganj police station area. Both of them died on the spot in this accident. The truck driver parked the truck some distance away from the spot and ran away. The deceased have been identified as Priyanshu, a 12-year-old student, and Bami, a 55-year-old resident of Shivnath. Angered by the incident, the villagers blocked the road, which was removed after persuasion by the officials. Then the police recovered the bodies and sent them for post-mortem.

Priyanshu and Shivnath, students of Bami village under Lahangpur police post, had gone from home towards Tulsi Nala in the morning for defecation. While returning from there, he reached near Indian Oil Petrol Pump in Bami. Then suddenly an uncontrolled truck climbed onto the track and moved ahead, crushing cyclists Shivnath and Priyanshu. When the petrol pump employees raised an alarm, the truck driver parked the truck in front of Karbala, about 200 meters from the spot, and ran away.

Lahangpur outpost in-charge Guru Prasad Singh along with the police force wanted to take possession of the body while controlling the crowd gathered on the highway, when the angry villagers blocked the highway. Lalganj SDM Ajit Kumar and CO Amar Bahadur, Tehsildar Vishal Sharma and Inspector Ved Prakash Pandey reached the spot and explained to the villagers.

After about an hour, the jam ended and traffic resumed on the national highway. Relatives told that Priyanshu was the only son of his father Balmukund and he had two sisters. He had left home for defecation on a bicycle with his relative Baba Shivnath.

While returning after defecation, he was crushed by a truck on the highway. Shivnath has two daughters, 20-year-old Rekha and 18-year-old Karishma. His relatives are crying and in bad condition. Inspector-in-charge Ved Prakash Pandey said that two people, including a child, have died due to being crushed by a truck. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem and the police are investigating the matter.
