Naqvi handed over the runner-up check to the Sri Lankan team. After this he remained present on the stage for some time, but the trophy was not given to the Indian team. After this Naqvi left from there.

After the same incident, the 'trophy thief' taunt about him came into discussion among the Indian supporters.

BCCI instructions were followed

After the match, Indian team coach Amol Majumdar said that the team had already been instructed by BCCI that if Naqvi comes to give the trophy, then it is not to accept it. The team took the decision according to these instructions.
