Bhubaneswar theatres are staying open later this week. Three days after its nationwide release, the Odia supernatural horror film Dahaan: The Evil Within has added a slate of night shows across the city, with the director himself urging audiences to experience the scares after dark.
Anupam Patnaik, the National Award-winning filmmaker behind the movie, posted a promotional poster on Monday announcing extra screenings at Cinepolis (9:10 pm), PVR (10:15 pm), INOX Bhawani Mall (10:55 pm), Symphony (9:30 pm) and DN Regalia (11:30 pm). The tagline on the poster is simple and effective: “Horror hits different at night.”

The film follows the Singh Deo family as they return to their ancestral mansion after nearly three decades. When a mysterious locked box is opened, an ancient spirit is unleashed and begins to consume one of the sisters. Her siblings and a pastor race against time to break the curse. Reviews have highlighted Aurosikha Mishra’s physical and emotional performance as the possessed character, atmospheric cinematography by Deepak Kumar, and a second half that delivers earned scares rather than cheap jump cuts.
Early audience response has been strong. The film currently sits at 9.1 on IMDb from a growing number of ratings, with viewers praising its gothic tone and the fact that an Odia production is attempting serious, large-scale horror instead of relying on familiar tropes. A special Mumbai premiere ahead of release also helped introduce the film to a wider Indian audience.
Patnaik, who previously directed the National Award-winning Practices and has worked in horror through web series and television, produced *Dahaan* with Barsha Patnaik under Amiya Patnaik Productions. The movie carries an ‘A’ certificate and runs 2 hours 12 minutes.
