Mumbai: Nayanthara is set to reprise her popular role as Mookuthi Amman in the upcoming film Mahasakthi. The teaser of the much-awaited project has now been released, offering a glimpse into its larger-than-life world and introducing the actor in a new avatar.
Nayanthara returns as Mookuthi Amman
Directed by Sundar C, Mahasakthi brings Nayanthara back as Mookuthi Amman, the character she first portrayed in the 2020 film Mookuthi Amman. The earlier film gained popularity among audiences, and her return to the role has emerged as one of the major highlights of the new project.
The teaser keeps much of the film’s storyline under wraps while showcasing elaborate visuals, grand sequences and an atmosphere filled with mystery. Nayanthara is seen reprising the divine character, although the teaser appears to introduce a fresh setting and a new chapter in the world established by the first film.

Sundar C directs the upcoming film
Sundar C has directed Mahasakthi, bringing together an ensemble cast alongside Nayanthara. The film features Regena Cassandra, Yogi Babu and Oorvasi, among others.
The project is produced by Dr Ishari K Ganesh under the banner of Vels Film International in association with Avni Media, IVY Entertainment and Rowdy Pictures. With the production mounted on a bigger canvas, the film is being positioned as a continuation of the world introduced through Mookuthi Amman.
The teaser focuses heavily on the scale of the film without revealing too much about its central conflict. This approach leaves several questions surrounding the story open while placing Nayanthara’s character at the centre of the promotional material.
Film to release in five languages
Mahasakthi is scheduled to release in November 2026. The film will be released in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada, marking a multilingual release aimed at audiences across different regions.
AA Films will handle the film’s distribution across North India. The Hindi version is also being promoted through the teaser, giving audiences outside the Tamil market an early look at the project.
