Amidst the discussions regarding petrol prices and E20 fuel, the demand for CNG cars is continuously strengthening in the Indian auto market. Due to low running costs, customers are now increasingly preferring factory-fitted CNG cars. This is the reason that now the CNG segment is no longer limited to Maruti Suzuki only.
Companies like Renault, Kia, Toyota, Hyundai and Tata Motors are also working on CNG option in their existing or upcoming models. In the coming time, many options of CNG hatchback, sedan, SUV and MPV can be seen in the market.
New CNG setup can be found in Renault Triber
Renault is preparing to introduce its popular MPV Triber with a major update. The new generation Triber is expected to be built on the new RGEP platform. It can be given a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine.
Its CNG version may be special, because the company is considering giving underbody CNG tank in it. The biggest advantage of this setup will be that a large part of the boot space will not be used for the CNG tank. In such a situation, passengers can get more space for luggage with a CNG car.
Kia Carens and Carens Clavis also in CNG lineup
Kia is also preparing to increase CNG option in its family car segment. The company may introduce a CNG version of its three-row Carens. CNG system can be provided with 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine.
The CNG tank is likely to get space in the boot. Apart from this, the company can make changes in the calibration of suspension and ECU, so that the performance and driving experience of the car remains better on CNG.
Along with this, Carens Clavis may also get a factory-fitted CNG option. It is expected to be provided with a CNG tank of about 60-litre capacity. Initially its CNG model can come with manual gearbox.
New features will also be available in Toyota Glanza
Toyota is also preparing to update its premium hatchback Glanza. Along with the design, changes in features and powertrain can be seen in the new model.
The new Glanza is expected to get a 1.2-litre Z-Series petrol engine. Apart from this, features like Level-2 ADAS, ventilated seats and 360-degree camera can be added. The CNG version is likely to be offered with a manual transmission, while an AMT option may also come later.
CNG option in Hyundai's new SUV also
Hyundai is also preparing to increase its presence in the CNG segment. The company's new BC4i SUV is expected to be introduced as a model with a length of more than 4 meters.
The 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine taken from Creta can be used in this SUV. There is a possibility of getting underbody tank in CNG model. Talking about the features, features like panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats and ADAS can be given in it.
AMT can be found in Tata Tigor CNG
Tata Motors is also preparing to update its compact sedan Tigor. Changes can be made in the exterior design of the facelift model. Changes like new front grille, updated headlamps and connected LED lighting at the rear can be seen in the car.
The new Tigor is expected to have a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine. Its CNG version can be especially important because the company can also offer the option of AMT gearbox along with manual.
Maruti Fronx CNG will also be updated
Maruti Suzuki, which already has a strong hold in the CNG segment, is also working on updating its Fronx SUV. The company is testing the new model and it is expected to be launched in the market in the coming months.
Apart from minor cosmetic changes, the facelifted Fronx may get a new 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine. There is a possibility of new features like Level-2 ADAS and seat ventilation being added to the car. The CNG option can also be continued with the new model.
Increasing choice of CNG cars
If these models hit the market as planned, customers will have more options than ever before for CNG cars in the future. The special thing is that companies are now emphasizing on CNG technology not only in small cars but also in SUVs and three-row MPVs. This can increase both the segment and options for customers buying CNG cars.
