Indian pacer Mukesh Kumar will play in the 2026 County Championship. He has signed a two-match deal with Nottinghamshire, making his debut in English county cricket. He recently played in the Duleep Trophy. He was part of the East Zone team that won the title. He took three wickets for 62 runs in the final against South Zone.
Mukesh is likely to play in the match against Sussex from September 15. Nottinghamshire will then play Yorkshire on 24 September, when his contract expires. Speaking about his county career, he said: “I'm really excited to be coming to England and trying my hand at county cricket. While I'm here, I want to contribute as much as I can to the success of Nottinghamshire and I'm looking forward to working with the coach and my new teammates. Coming to England is always a good challenge and I'm excited about the opportunity to play in new conditions for a new team.”
Mukesh has played 60 first-class matches so far and has taken 233 wickets. He has taken five wickets in an innings 10 times and 10 wickets in a match once. He has played Test cricket for India, taking seven wickets in these matches. He last played for India in 2024 and has been away from cricket since then. He has also played ODI and T20 International matches for the Indian team.
Nottinghamshire are currently second in the County Championship points table with a total of 185 points. Many Indian cricketers have played county cricket this season. These include Kuldeep Yadav (Yorkshire), Manav Suthar (Warwickshire), Aaqib Nabi (Surrey), Yuzvendra Chahal (Northamptonshire), Jaydev Unadkat (Sussex), Mayank Agarwal (Durham), Rahul Chahar and Mahipal Lomror (Surrey).
