The Criminal Investigation Department (CID), which is investigating the illegal land grabbing case worth crores of rupees in Salboni in West Midnapore district of West Bengal, has got important clues. These clues revealed that fake seals and stamps of the state government were used to illegally convert government land into another category and then sell it at high prices.
A state police source said that the investigating officers have got important clues from the interrogation of the key people involved in the alleged scam and the recovery of fake seals and stamps of the state government from one of the three arrested people.
The three people arrested by the CID in this case are Sumit Roy (personal assistant to Trinamool Congress general secretary and party MP from Diamond Harbor Lok Sabha constituency Abhishek Banerjee), Sujoy Hazra (former Trinamool MLA from Midnapore assembly constituency) and Amit Ghosh (close aide of both Roy and Hazra).
Regarding this, a state police official said, “The investigating officers went to the addresses of the people whose names were in the title deeds of the land and found that no person of that name was present at the given addresses.
A large number of stamp papers and rubber stamp seals of the state land and revenue department were recovered from Sujoy Hazra's house. Later it was found that these seals were fake. Besides this, several passbooks and checkbooks were also recovered from Hazra's house.”
A state police source said that apart from these, the statements of two Personal Security Officers (PSOs) of Abhishek Banerjee are also very important for the investigating officers to strengthen the case.
The names of two PSOs of the Diamond Harbor MP have also been included as witnesses in the charge sheet filed by the CID. A total of 20 people have been made witnesses in the charge sheet.
“The list of witnesses includes people from panchayat heads to local Trinamool Congress leaders. Even the driver of Sujoy Hazra's car has been made a witness,” the police officer said.
