The Indian team has suffered a big setback in the ongoing three-match T20 series against Afghanistan. Star spinner Varun Chakraborty has been ruled out of the remaining two matches of the series due to injury. Varun bowled brilliantly in the first T20 match played in Delhi on 13 September. He took one wicket for just 16 runs in his four over spell. However, due to injury, he could not be a part of the playing eleven of the second T20 match being played on September 15.
Indian captain Shreyas Iyer had informed about Varun’s exclusion before the second match. Shortly after this, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also released an official update regarding his injury. According to the board, while bowling his third over in the first T20 match, Varun suddenly felt discomfort in the left side of his stomach. The scan done after this confirmed side strain and due to this he was dropped from the remaining two matches.
Big blow to India due to Varun Chakraborty’s injury
Varun’s exit is being considered a big loss for India. In the last few years, he has been one of the team’s reliable spin bowlers in T20 cricket. His performance for Kolkata Knight Riders has also been excellent. In T20 International, Varun has continuously troubled the batsmen due to the variety of his balls and accurate line-length. In such a situation, India may definitely feel his absence in the remaining matches against Afghanistan.
Ravi Bishnoi got a chance, made a special record
In place of Varun, leg spinner Ravi Bishnoi was included in the playing eleven for the second T20 match. This match was special for Bishnoi, because this is his 50th T20 International match for India. This Rajasthan bowler made his international debut on 16 February 2022 against West Indies at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Till now he has taken 67 wickets for India in T20 International. Like Varun, Bishnoi has also previously been the number-1 bowler in T20 International.
