AAP leader Baltej Pannu said that under the leadership of Bhagwant Mann government, Punjab Police has intensified action against drugs and organized crime. The government's emphasis is on bringing back the gangsters hiding abroad and equipping the police with modern technology.
Knews desk- – Aam Aadmi Party on Tuesday enumerated the achievements of the government regarding the campaign being run against drug addiction and gangsterism. AAP Punjab media in-charge Baltej Pannu said that due to the strict policy of the Bhagwant Mann government, the work of cracking down on criminals has reached beyond the borders of Punjab. He claimed that Punjab Police has so far brought back more than a dozen gangsters from abroad.
During the press conference, Baltej Pannu said that Punjab Police has also taken action against criminals hiding in countries like America, Dubai, Malaysia and Moldova. He mentioned about the recent deportation of Lawrence Bishnoi's close aide Karamveer Singh alias Karamveer Dev from Canada and his arrest at Delhi Airport.
He said that even after fleeing abroad, gangsters are not finding safe haven. The police are constantly keeping an eye on their network and are trying to bring them back to India in collaboration with the concerned agencies.
Details given of the campaign against gangsters
Baltej Pannu said that after coming to power, Bhagwant Mann government gave priority to action against drugs and organized crime. He claimed that the gangsters brought back from abroad include Sachin Bishnoi, Manpreet Singh alias Pita, Ramanjeet Singh alias Romi, Parminder Singh alias Pindi, Anmol Bishnoi, Amritpal alias Mehro, Gurvinder Singh and Jobandeep Singh alias Joban Billa.
The AAP leader said that Anmol Bishnoi was brought back from America, Amritpal alias Mehro from Dubai and Gurvinder Singh from Malaysia. He said that two days ago the AGTF team brought gangster Amritpal alias Amrit Dhallam from Moldova. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann met the team and appreciated its efforts.
Congress government also targeted
Referring to the history of gangsterism in Punjab, Baltej Pannu claimed that it increased between 2007 and 2017. He said that during this period the word gangster had become a part of Punjab's identity and public discussion.
He also targeted the Congress government between 2017 and 2022. The AAP leader alleged that at that time, instead of dismantling the organized crime network, a gangster was brought from Uttar Pradesh to a Punjab jail and given VIP facilities.
Attacking the opposition, he said that the opposition parties are ignoring the anti-crime action of the government and trying to mislead the public.
Police strengthened with modern technology
Baltej Pannu said that to modernize the Punjab Police, the government has not only provided new vehicles but has also equipped the soldiers with advanced technology and modern equipment. According to him, this has increased the ability to identify criminals, monitor their activities and take action.
Referring to a recent encounter in Ludhiana, he said that the police had prior knowledge of the attack on the blood donation camp. On the basis of this information, the police took action to stop the criminals before they could commit the crime.
Cooperation even in countries without extradition treaty
The AAP leader said that Punjab Police is chasing criminals even in countries with which India does not have extradition treaty. He claimed that gangsters hiding abroad are now becoming a challenge for the countries where they are living. In such a situation, cooperation is increasing at the international level.
Baltej Pannu said that the message of the Punjab government is clear that no person committing crime in the state will be allowed to escape the law. He said that no matter where the criminals are hiding in the world, the police will keep chasing them.
