Mathura: On Tuesday, the police revealed the sensational theft of about Rs 12 crore that took place in the shop of Jugal Kishore Jewelers in the bullion market of Kosikalan. The mastermind of the incident turned out to be not an outsider, but Pappu Soni, a former employee of the shop. Pappu, who had complete knowledge of the inside of the shop, had conspired to commit theft along with his brother Mohan Soni, mother and sister. Police arrested all four and recovered 7.5 kg gold, Rs 11 lakh in cash, locker key, DVR and the gas cutter used in the crime from their possession. The value of the recovered gold is said to be around Rs 12 crore.
Former employee conspired to steal
ADG Agra Range SK Bhagat said that on the night of September 13, thieves cut the roof of Jugal Kishore Jewelers’ shop with a gas cutter and entered inside. Being a former employee of the shop, Pappu Soni had complete knowledge of the locker and the arrangement of the shop. He knew that after closing the locker, the shop owner leaves the key inside the shop. Taking advantage of this information, he prepared a plan for theft. According to the police, the accused remained inside the shop for about seven hours. He opened the locker after finding the key and ran away with the gold and cash.
Claim of theft of 10 kg gold, four accused arrested
After the incident, the businessman had said that about 10 kg gold and Rs 15 lakh cash had been stolen. After CCTV footage of the incident surfaced, the police intensified the investigation. 10 police teams including STF were deployed to uncover the case. The teams analyzed footage from more than 100 CCTV cameras. After getting the clue, the police arrested Pappu Soni, Mohan Soni and two female accused from Gopal Bagh, Kosikalan. After interrogation and recovery, the complete picture of the incident came to light.
The businessman’s entire goods were recovered during the investigation.
ADG said that immediately after the incident, the businessman had hurriedly overstated the quantity of stolen goods. Later, after examining the documents, the businessman told the police that 100 percent of his goods had been recovered. According to the police, Pappu Soni has already committed theft. Earlier, he had also stolen gold from the bullion dealer where he worked. The matter was closed after the gold was returned after being caught. The police arrested all four accused and presented them in the court, from where they were sent to jail.
