Controversy has deepened over the screening of the documentary on Umar Khalid in Karnataka. Meanwhile, Karnataka Congress President B.K. Hariprasad termed Umar Khalid as a 'nationalist', after which BJP and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) are continuously attacking Congress. At the same time, now the reaction of state government minister Priyank Kharge has also come to light in this matter.
On ABVP students' organization protesting against the screening of the documentary on Omar Khalid, Priyank Kharge said, “ABVP should engage in more constructive work. You have a government at the Centre. Talk about the education reforms that the youth and Gen-C are talking about. Talk about the KPSC scam in which your leaders are involved.”
Why are you after that Umar Khalid? He's in jail, right? How is he hurting you? Blame him, who's saying no? But why is ABVP getting involved in all these things regarding which documentary should be shown and which should not? This kind of hooliganism will not be tolerated.”
Minister Kharge also raised questions on the Central Government. He asked that if Umar Khalid is anti-national then why his trial is not being started. He said, “Who is saying that Umar Khalid is anti-national? Has the court said so?
BJP is saying that he is anti-national. Why are they not starting the trial? He has been in jail for many years and apparently there are some charge sheets against him. Why is the trial not going on? Why are they so afraid of doing a trial?”
Meanwhile, SP leader ST Hasan in Moradabad said, “As far as we understand, Omar Khalid has always talked about national unity. He has always talked about communal harmony and freedom from oppression. Now, everyone knows today who is the oppressor and who is the oppressed.”
We don't understand how he became anti-national. It is also sad that he has been in jail for six years and his trial has not even started yet. Who is stopping this? You know very well.”
