Pakistan players Mohammad Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq are facing heat following their performance in the England Test series and the ongoing investigation by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) over their suspicious bank transactions. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is discussing its next course of action amid a probe into dressing room leaks, Â according to Geo News.
The NCCIA is carrying out the examination of the mobiles of Rizwan and Imam after their devices were handed over by the officials of the board as part of the ongoing inquiry. The investigating officers are checking messages, contacts, and other information, while claims of leaks from the dressing room are also being looked into.
The initial examination didn’t reveal anything damaging, but the NCCIA is continuing further forensic analysis at its headquarters in Islamabad, according to Geo News. The financial dealings of the two senior players before and after the three-Test series against England are part of the probe. The agency has been told to find the source and destination of money trails if any suspicious transactions are found.
Rizwan and Imam appeared before the NCCIA and were questioned for hours.
The NCCIA will submit the report to PCB officials once the examination is completed, after which the board will take a call on the future of the two players.
Rizwan has written to the NCCIA to reveal the reasons for giving him a summons and why his mobile phone has not been returned.
The PCB refused to comment on the issue as the inquiry is still ongoing and the findings against the players haven’t been announced.
The problem started after Pakistan lost the second Test at Lord’s and the PCB released seven players, including Rizwan, Imam, Salman Ali Agha, Ali Usman, Aamir Jamal, Owais Zafar and Khurram Shahzad. Head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and bowling coach Umar Gul were also sacked. It didn’t impact the outcome, as the visiting team was also thumped in the third and final game of the bilateral assignment.
England won the contest by 8 wickets to complete a series whitewash over Pakistan.
Earlier, the PCB directed the selectors to submit a written explanation for including Rizwan and Imam in the Test squads for the West Indies and England tours. Rizwan has played 47 Tests, 103 ODIs and 106 T20Is for the national team. He had a word with the PCB officials before the NCCIA spoke to him.
