New Delhi: A new chapter of technology and innovation has started in the grand Yashobhoomi Center located in the country's capital Delhi. The three-day international conference 'SemiconIndia 2026', running from September 17 to September 19, was formally inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Based on the theme 'From Silicon to System: Building an Ecosystem', this global event has brought together leading companies, researchers and investors from all over the world. During the inaugural address, Prime Minister Modi underlined the growing global confidence in India and made it clear that India is rapidly emerging as the most preferred global destination for semiconductor and high-tech manufacturing.
Young talent will get great encouragement
The Prime Minister described India's strong talent pool as the country's biggest strength. He said that every year lakhs of qualified engineers are being prepared, who are contributing in semiconductor and chip designing.
Amid the expansion of fabless companies and AI ecosystem, the government has set a target of providing specialized training to one lakh youth for the semiconductor industry.
India's vision on advanced technology
Keeping in mind the huge requirement of energy in semiconductor manufacturing, the Prime Minister also stressed the importance of energy security. He expressed confidence that India is fully prepared to meet the increasing electricity demand in future and is investing on a large scale in the power sector.
India is even rapidly working on cutting-edge technologies like Small Modular Reactors to provide uninterrupted and clean power to semiconductor fabrication plants. Referring to India's positive performance being appreciated by the rating agencies, he said that it is not easy for a country to achieve this level of progress in such a short period of time, but India has done it due to strong will.
Global Partnerships and the Complete Journey from Sand to Silicon
This conference has become a major platform to showcase the synergy of global cooperation, investment and technology in India. Special pavilions of major countries like Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Netherlands, Singapore and Sweden have been built at Yasho Bhoomi, which is a testimony to the strong bilateral partnership with India. The entire value chain of semiconductor through 'Sand to Silicon to System' is being showcased during the event. It details every aspect of the process of making billions of micro transistors on silicon wafers, from chip designing, fabrications to advanced packaging, offering a living blueprint of India's technological future.
