UPI MDR Controversy : The Modi government at the Center seems to be under attack from all sides over its decision to impose MDR on UPI transactions. The opposition is calling this step a decision taken under pressure from America. Actually, from October 15, 0.4% MDR will be levied on person to merchant UPI payments of more than Rs 2,000. The charge for transactions of ₹75,000 and above will be ₹300. Now common people fear that traders or shopkeepers will compensate the customers for this. Now BSP supremo Mayawati has strongly attacked the Modi government on this issue.

Former UP CM Mayawati has termed the new rule of UPI as extortion from the public by the government with both hands. He wrote on social media platform Although we are not ready to consider this system of imposing additional financial burden on the public as a 'tax', but whatever name is given to this system which will be implemented from 15th October, ultimately it will be a hit to the common people's pockets and their expenses will increase only.

After greatly promoting UPI digital transactions, now the new system of charging fees on those transactions by the government is prima facie in the eyes of the people, collecting taxes from the public with both hands under the capitalist attitude of profiteering, due to which the restlessness and anger among the public is natural.

He further said, 'At the same time, it is also well known that the majority of the people of the country are suffering from immense poverty and huge inflation etc. and their children are suffering from illiteracy, unemployment and chaos etc. In such a situation, it would be appropriate if the policy and action plan of the government is less profit making commercial and more welfare oriented. If the government does not care about the plight and suffering of the people, then who will?
Targeted over the announcement of making 14,500 schools 'smart schools'
In the cabinet meeting held in Lucknow under the chairmanship of CM Yogi Adityanath, approval was given to develop 14,429 council primary schools as smart schools. Taking a dig at the government's decision, Mayawati said, 'The announcement by the UP government to make about 14,500 schools in the state 'smart schools' at a cost of about Rs 300 crore is a good thing, but before giving so-called 'smart education' to the children, the basic education needs of the children, i.e. a roof over the heads of the school children, proper arrangements for benches, chairs, books, toilets, grounds, cleanliness etc. should be fulfilled and all this will cost about Rs 2 lakh per school. The government must consider sympathetically what can be possible with the rupee.
