Big decision of Election Commission: Name and symbol of Mamata's TMC changed, rebel Ritabrata group got new name and symbol.

New Delhi. Amidst the split in Trinamool Congress (TMC), the Election Commission has issued a big order on September 18. The Commission has allotted separate names and election symbols to both the factions under the interim arrangement. Earlier on September 17, the Commission had frozen the party's name and existing election symbol.

According to the new order of the Commission, the Arup Roy/Ritabrata Banerjee faction has been named 'Democratic Trinamool Congress'. This group has been allotted 'Envelope' as its election symbol. At the same time, Mamata Banerjee faction has been named 'Mamata All India Trinamool Congress'. 'Football player' has been allotted as the election symbol for this group.

Both groups got interim recognition

Under the arrangement issued by the Election Commission, both the factions will be considered recognized parties in West Bengal, Meghalaya and Tripura. This system has been implemented on an interim basis at present.

Name and symbol were frozen on September 17

Amidst the organizational dispute in Trinamool Congress, the Election Commission had on September 17 frozen the party by banning it from using its name and election symbol. After this, both the groups were given the option to choose new names and election symbols. Now the Commission has decided separate names and marks for both the parties. After this decision, both the groups will contest with different names and election symbols in the upcoming election process.
