During SpaceX's last test flight in July, Starship reached space and successfully placed 20 Starlink V3 satellites into orbit. During the return, the upper part of Starship entered the Earth's atmosphere and landed in the Indian Ocean. This test provided engineers with many important technical data.
However, the previous flight could not complete the entire orbit and the Super Heavy Booster was also destroyed during landing. After this, SpaceX has made many technical changes for the next flight.
The mission will last for about 10 hours
Flight 14 is planned to be about 10 hours long. During this time, Starship will orbit the Earth six times at an altitude of about 275 kilometers above the Earth and then try to land in the Pacific Ocean. However, the final date of the proposed flight and conduct of the mission will depend on the relevant government approvals.
Connection from Starlink to the moon
Starship is designed to be a fully reusable space transportation system consisting of a Super Heavy Booster and the Starship spacecraft. SpaceX's aim is to transport large-scale goods and, in the future, humans to space and reduce the cost of launching.
The importance of Starship is also linked to the expansion of SpaceX's Starlink internet network. The company is working towards deploying larger and more capable V3 satellites in the future. In such a situation, Starship can play an important role in sending these satellites into space.
Role in NASA's Artemis mission also
A special version of Starship is proposed to be used as a lunar lander under NASA's Artemis program. According to NASA's plan, the moon lander version of Starship is to be used in the Artemis-3 mission proposed in 2027.
For this, Starship will first have to prove that it is capable of carrying astronauts to lunar orbit, landing on the lunar surface and completing the required mission procedures safely.
