Environment issue echoed in international conference in Delhi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated a grand and grand international conference on 'The Future of Environment and Climate Dynamics' in New Delhi. This two-day conference organized by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) is going on on 19 and 20 September. During this important program, PM Modi presented to the world India's excellent achievements so far in the field of environmental protection, renewable energy, carbon emissions and waste management and told how India is setting new standards at the global level today.
Targeted at developed countries, pointed out India's real contribution
Addressing the conference, the Prime Minister bluntly said that the responsibility for carbon emissions is often wrongly placed on developing countries. Keeping the historical truth, he said that even today India's contribution in per capita carbon emissions is less than half of the global average, whereas in developed countries it is six times more than India. India strongly presents these facts on global platforms and appeals to every citizen to play an important role in saving the environment.
India's historic leap in solar energy and renewable energy
The Prime Minister proudly told the nation that in the last 12 years, India has made unprecedented progress in every field related to the environment. The main focus of the country has always been on renewable energy. India's solar energy capacity was only 2 GW 12 years ago, which has now increased to more than 160 GW. He also claimed that India is the only G-20 country which has fulfilled its resolutions of the COP-21 summit held in Paris ahead of time.
PM Suryaghar Yojana and clean mobility showcased their glory
Referring to 'PM Suryaghar Free Electricity Scheme', PM Modi said that till now rooftop solar panels have been installed in more than 50 lakh houses in the country, for which financial assistance of up to Rs 80 thousand has been given by the government. Additionally, promoting clean mobility, the world's longest hydrogen train has started operating in the country, marking the beginning of a completely new era of green transportation.
Green energy, electric vehicles and expanding metro network
The Prime Minister informed that India's wind energy capacity has increased three times in the last 12 years and avenues have been opened for the private sector in the field of nuclear energy as well. There has also been a huge jump in the sales of electric vehicles (EV), where before 2014, only 3,000 vehicles were sold in a year in the country, whereas last year this figure increased to around 25 lakh. Along with this, before 2014, only 5 cities of the country had metro, which has now grown to become a huge network of more than 1,000 kilometers in more than 20 cities. 100% electrification of railways has also resulted in saving of huge amount of diesel.
Biggest focus on water conservation, natural farming and waste management
Taking a big step towards saving water, more than 70 thousand Amrit Saros have been built in the country and more than 1.5 crore water harvesting structures have been built under the 'Catch the Rain' campaign. To promote natural farming, clusters have been formed in 12.5 lakh hectare area and the area of dense forests has also increased by 22%. To deal with the huge challenge of plastic waste, a strict ban has been imposed on single use plastic and organic waste is being converted into useful resource through 'Gobardhan Yojana'.
