Jammu: A security investigation has intensified in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district after police recovered AK-47 ammunition and Pakistani-related material from a jewelery shop located in the busy Main Market area.
The unexpected recovery of five AK-47 rounds, Pakistani currency, posters and flags from a commercial establishment has raised several questions about the source of the material and how it reached the shop premises.
Police have registered a case and launched a detailed investigation involving forensic experts and local administration officials to determine the circumstances behind the recovery.
AK-47 Rounds Recovered During Jewelery Shop Search In Poonch
According to officials, a police team from Police Station Poonch conducted a search operation at a jewelery shop in the Main Market area. The operation was carried out in the presence of a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team and a Naib Tehsildar to ensure proper documentation and examination of the recovered items.
During the search, police recovered five AK-47 rounds along with Pakistani currency worth Rs 105, around 30 Pakistani posters and two Pakistani flags, officials said. The recovered material has been seized and secured as part of the ongoing investigation.
Police Probe Source Of Ammunition And Other Material
The investigation is now focused on several key questions, including how the ammunition reached the jewelery shop, who was responsible for keeping the material there and whether there is any connection with any illegal network.
Authorities are examining all available evidence and conducting further verification to establish the origin and purpose of the recovered items. Officials have not disclosed any details regarding possible suspects or confirmed any direct links with any organization at this stage.
FSL Team Examines Recovered Evidence
The involvement of the Forensic Science Laboratory team has added a technical dimension to the investigation. Experts are expected to examine the recovered AK-47 rounds and other material to gather scientific evidence that may help investigators understand their background and possible relevance.
Forensic analysis can play an important role in cases involving ammunition recovery by helping agencies establish connections with previous incidents or illegal supply chains.
Poonch Remains A Sensitive Border District
The recovery has drawn attention due to Poonch's strategic location near the Line of Control (LoC) and its importance from a security perspective. The district has witnessed security challenges in the past, leading police and security agencies to maintain continuous surveillance and conduct intelligence-based operations.
Border districts in Jammu and Kashmir remain under close monitoring due to concerns related to infiltration attempts, illegal movement and cross-border activities.
Security Agencies Increase Focus After Recovery
The latest incident has highlighted the importance of coordination between police, intelligence agencies, forensic teams and local administration in maintaining security in sensitive regions.
Search operations and investigations in such cases are aimed at identifying possible threats and preventing any misuse of ammunition or suspicious material.
Authorities are expected to examine whether the recovered items were kept at the location recently or had been stored there for a longer period.
Investigation Continues After Major Recovery
Police have registered a case under relevant sections of law and further investigation is underway. Investigators are likely to question individuals connected with the premises, examine evidence collected during the search and verify the source of the recovered material.
The focus remains on establishing the complete chain of events behind the recovery. Further details are expected as the investigation progresses and forensic reports become available.
