Big change in the rules of domestic LPG cylinder from October 1
A very important and big news has come to light for all the consumers availing the subsidy on domestic LPG cylinders. In fact, from October 1, 2026, it has been made completely mandatory to get Biometric Aadhaar Authentication (BAA) done to book domestic LPG refill at Regulated Retail Selling Price (RSP) with subsidy. If you do not complete this process in time, you may have to face big problems in getting gas subsidy.
Why is biometric Aadhaar authentication necessary?
The main objective behind this step taken by the government is to ensure that the benefit of subsidized LPG reaches only genuine and eligible families. Linking every gas connection to an Aadhaar-authenticated consumer will completely prevent illegal diversion of subsidized domestic cylinders into the commercial and industrial sectors. Additionally, this will automatically remove fake and ineligible connections from the system, so that subsidies will directly reach the right and needy people with complete transparency. It is absolutely not the intention of the Government to deprive any genuine family of LPG, and hence eligible consumers can complete the process in very easy ways.
More than 27 crore consumers have got certification done, they do not need it
According to the information given by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas on Saturday, till September 19, a total of 27.43 crore active domestic LPG consumers in the country i.e. about 89.9 percent have successfully completed their biometric Aadhaar authentication. The good thing is that consumers who have already completed this process do not need to re-certify and will continue to get gas refills as easily as before.
Complete the e-KYC process at home or at the time of delivery.
Consumers who have not yet completed their biometric Aadhaar authentication can easily complete it before the October 1 deadline. This simple process can also be completed at the time of home delivery of LPG cylinder, where the delivery person will do your biometric authentication on the spot through the official mobile app of the Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs). Apart from this, consumers can also get this work done by directly visiting their LPG distributor (different agency) shop.
Not only this, there is also a great option for customers to complete e-KYC on their own through their mobile app while sitting at home. For example, Indane customers can complete this process through 'IndaneOilOne', Bharat Gas customers through 'HelloBPCL' and HP Gas customers through 'HP Pay' app. Easy video tutorial to do e-KYC by yourself is also available on PMUY portal.
What is the arrangement for subsidized and uncertified customers?
For consumers who have not completed biometric Aadhaar authentication within the stipulated time, booking of gas refills will resume at subsidized retail selling price after completion of the authentication process. However, for consumers who do not want to undergo biometric authentication or are unable to complete it for some reason, the option of obtaining LPG gas will always be open. The government is continuously providing financial assistance to keep domestic LPG affordable for the general public, under which the implicit subsidy on 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder has been fixed at around Rs 210 per cylinder in September 2026.
