According to the latest bulletin of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the weather system has once again become highly active over the states of Eastern, Central and Southern India as the process of departure of monsoon from North-West India has started. Due to the effect of Cyclonic Circulation over the Bay of Bengal and low pressure moving towards South Odisha-North Andhra Pradesh coasts, a warning has been issued for torrential rains, strong winds with a speed of 50 to 60 km per hour and lightning in more than 7 states of the country on Sunday, September 20. It is very important for people planning to travel or go out on the last day of the week to know the weather conditions.
According to the Meteorological Department, due to the seasonal circulation over West Bengal, North Coastal Odisha and Jharkhand, the intensity of rain will be highest in Eastern India.

West Bengal: Gale winds with speed of 40 to 50 km per hour are expected along with heavy rain in Gangetic West Bengal and Sub-Himalayan districts. There is a possibility of heavy rain and thundershowers in the coastal areas of Kolkata, Howrah, South 24 Parganas and Medinipur.

Jharkhand: There is a yellow alert of moderate to heavy rain with thunder and lightning in Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Dhanbad, Bokaro and Santal Pargana areas on Sunday. During this period, there is a possibility of lightning and strong winds at a speed of 40-50 km per hour.

Odisha: Alert of heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorm with speed of 50 to 60 km per hour has been given in many districts of Odisha (Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Puri and Bhubaneswar). Due to rough sea, fishermen have been instructed not to venture into the deep sea.
According to the special bulletin of the Meteorological Department, on September 20, rain activities may be most intense in these seven states of the country:

Odisha: Alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall and gale force winds.

West Bengal: Torrential rain and thundershowers in many districts.

Jharkhand: Warning of rain with lightning and thunder.

Chhattisgarh: Heavy rain and strong winds in Bilaspur, Raipur, Bastar and Surguja divisions.

Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana: Torrential rainfall and winds of up to 50 kmph in coastal and Rayalaseema areas.

Karnataka (Coastal and Interior): Possibility of heavy rain in coastal areas including South and North Interior Karnataka.

Maharashtra (Central Maharashtra and Konkan-Goa): Heavy rains with thunder and lightning will continue in Mumbai, Pune, Satara and Konkan belt.
Monsoon activities have started slowing down in the plains of North and North-Central India:

Delhi-NCR: The weather in the national capital Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad and Gurugram will be mainly dry and may be partly cloudy. The maximum day temperature is expected to be between 33 to 35 degrees Celsius and it is expected to remain humid.

Uttar Pradesh: There is no major alert of any widespread heavy rain in western and eastern UP. However, there may be local cloud movement and light scattered drizzle in Lucknow, Kanpur, Prayagraj and Terai districts.

Bihar: Most of the districts including Patna, Gaya and Bhagalpur will be affected by strong sunlight and humidity, however, there may be light showers with thunderstorms at local level in Seemanchal and southern parts adjoining Jharkhand.
Due to the local weather system, light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and strong winds may occur in the eastern and western divisions of Madhya Pradesh (Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Chhindwara and Gwalior).
Monsoon is weakening in the hilly states of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. The weather will be clear in the low lying areas, while sporadic rain may be seen in some limited areas at higher altitudes.
The Meteorological Department has especially advised residents of Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal and Chhattisgarh to be cautious about lightning (thunderstorm). Whenever clouds thunder or a strong storm blows, farmers working in the fields should not take shelter in open fields, under tall trees or iron pillars. Stay in pucca houses during rains and storms and avoid unnecessary travel in waterlogged low-lying areas and hilly roads.
