Clean the fan with old pillow covers
An old pillow cover can be very useful for cleaning the fan. First of all, turn off the power of the fan and wait for the blades to stop completely.
Now put an old pillow cover on one of the blades. Pull the cover towards you while gently pressing on both sides of the blade. By doing this, the dust accumulated on the blades will go inside the cover and there will be less chances of it falling on the floor or bed below.
Similarly, clean the remaining blades of the fan also. After cleaning is complete, take the pillow cover outside the room, dust it and then wash it.
This method can be especially useful if there is a large amount of dust accumulated on the fan.
Microfiber cloth will also be useful
If you clean the fan regularly, a microfiber cloth can be used. Place the cloth over the blade and slowly clean from one end to the other.
Holding the cloth gently on both sides of the blade while cleaning can reduce the spread of dust here and there.
If there is grease accumulated on the blade along with dust, then use a lightly damp microfiber cloth. But squeeze the cloth thoroughly. Do not use too wet cloth on the fan.
If the fan is at a height then take a long duster
If the fan is installed at a high height and the blades are not easily accessible, a long duster or dusting stick can be used.
Slowly run the duster over the top and bottom surface of the blade. This will reduce the need for you to climb on a stool or ladder and cleaning will also be easier.
However, keep safety in mind while cleaning the fan and turn off the power connection before cleaning.
Using soapy water on smooth blades
Not only dust but also oil and grease can accumulate on the blades of fans installed around the kitchen. Such dirt may be difficult to clean with only a dry cloth.
In such a situation, mix a little dishwashing liquid in water and moisten a cloth lightly. After wringing out the cloth thoroughly, gently clean the blade.
After removing the dirt, wipe off the traces of soap with another clean and slightly wet cloth. Finally, dry the blade thoroughly with a dry cloth.
Take care not to pour water or soap solution directly on the fan. Prevent water and moisture from reaching the motor, switch or any electrical parts.
Motor cleaning is also important
The dust accumulated around the fan blades and its motor should also be cleaned. For this, use dry microfiber cloth or soft duster.
Avoid using water, wet cloth or any kind of cleaning liquid on the motor part. Damage may occur if moisture reaches electrical parts.
Clean the fan once a week
It is better to do regular cleaning to prevent the fan from getting too dirty. If possible, clean the dust from the fan blades and the outside of the motor once a week.
By doing this, a thick layer of dust will not accumulate on the fan and during festivals or major cleaning of the house, you will not have to put much effort in cleaning the fan.
