England fast bowler Brydon Carse has got a big relief in the case of alleged assault in a nightclub. Derbyshire Police have closed their investigation into the matter and no charges have been laid against Carse. This incident happened in Derby last month. However, due to this controversy, Carse was dropped from England’s Test team against Pakistan. After the police investigation is over, he will no longer have to face criminal action.
The incident took place on the morning of 23 August at Molly Malone nightclub in Derby. Carse was celebrating Durham’s County Championship victory with his teammates at the time. After this he was seen in handcuffs outside the nightclub. He was also seen talking to fellow England player Matthew Potts. Former England captain Ben Stokes was also seen nearby during that time.
What did the police say after investigation?
Derbyshire Police said officers were called to Molly Malone after receiving reports of an alleged assault in the city centre. Police said: “The investigation has been closed following reports of a assault in Derby city centre. Officers attended Molly Malone in Wardwick, Derby, on the morning of August 23.” According to the police, a person was arrested on suspicion of creating ruckus while intoxicated, but after taking his information he was released. After speaking to the alleged victim and conducting further investigation, no further action was taken.
This question is still looming over Karse
Despite the police investigation being over, the Karse case is not completely over. Now the independent cricket regulator will decide whether a disciplinary case is made against him or not. Carse continued to play for Durham after the incident and helped the team win the Division Two title of the Rothesay County Championship. However, he remained out of the England team. He was not selected in the second and third Tests against Pakistan and also did not get a chance in the current white-ball series against Sri Lanka. England’s white-ball coach Brendon McCullum had said that Carse needs to take better decisions off the field.
