Angry Salman Khan comes out in support of Katrina Kaif over postpartum weight gain: ‘Everyone puts on weight after becoming pregnant’

Bollywood actor Salman Khan never minces words and often expresses his anger when needed. Last night’s episode of Weekend Ka Vaar saw Salman Khan raging in anger and slamming trolls and paparazzi left, right and centre for the way social media trolls and the media make remarks about celebrities.

He came in support of his brother Sohail Khan, who was recently trolled for his appearance. He also slammed trolls for making fun of Varun Dhawan’s smile and, more than that, Salman Khan, without taking any name, came out in support of Katrina Kaif.

He criticised people who body-shamed Katrina Kaif over her recent weight gain after giving birth to her son, Vihaan.

It so happened that Katrina attended Ganpati celebrations with her husband Vicky Kaushal. She wore an olive green kurta set, kept her hair open and wore a bindi. The actor looked stunning, but trolls slammed Katrina over her postpartum body and even said that her career was over.

Speaking about the trolling faced by Katrina after pregnancy, without naming her, Salman said people comment on someone’s weight and appearance when she has recently become a mother. He said, “Everyone puts on weight after becoming pregnant,” adding that she would get fit again when she decided to return to films. He also said that she should be allowed to spend time with her family.

Salman slammed trolls and said, “You are making money by putting someone down.” He said trolls often target celebrities over their body, weight, appearance, family, career failures and personal milestones such as motherhood, adding, “You are only showing your upbringing.”

As soon as videos of Salman schooling trolls went viral on social media, the internet couldn’t help but gush. “Katrina Kaif’s guardian angel btw,” wrote one fan while posting the video. “Salman Khan took revenge for Katrina Kaif’s postpartum trolling,” wrote another. O

ne even referred to their YRF spy universe characters, writing, “Tiger is back, speaking up for Zoya.”

“Bhaijaan defended Katrina Kaif,” gushed one fan while posting the video, while another pointed out, “All this because they dared to disrespect Kat.”

Given that Salman never named Katrina in the episode but alluded to her being trolled over her postpartum body, one fan wrote, “Omgg Bhai defending Katrina, I just can’t prove it.” “He always protects her no matter what,” declared another.

Salman also addressed the trolling faced by Sohail Khan over his appearance. He said, “Takla ho gaya hai kya? (Has he gone bald?)” before explaining that it was for a film look. He added that Sohail had undergone a hair transplant and said that while it did not make a difference to him, many people get depressed over such comments.

Salman’s longtime family friend, entrepreneur Kumod Raney, died on June 9 this year. Salman and members of his family, including Sohail Khan, Arbaaz Khan, Arpita Khan and Helen, attended her funeral and were seen getting emotional. She was married to Juggey Raney, a close friend of Salman.

Salman also shared that he has faced trolling over ageing, saying, “Budha ho gaya, of course 60 saal ka ho gaya. (I have grown old, of course I am 60.) You can’t be Maine Pyaar Kiya all the bloody time.”

Concluding, Salman questioned the motive behind trolling, asking, “What do you want to troll and why do you want to troll?”

Salman added, “But there are so many people about whom bad things which are not true are written, they go into depression. So many have died by suicide. Troll, troll, troll… kuch bhi yaar. (Whatever, man.)”

He added, “And the language that they use. It shows their upbringing and who they are. No one should even bother with them. Sometimes I wonder if these are even our people. Are they even humans? It would be an understatement to call them parasites. And we need to wipe this out. If you don’t want to watch my films, then don’t.”
