President of India Droupadi Murmu graced the valedictory session of the International Conference on ‘The Future of Environment and Climate Dynamics’, organised by the National Green Tribunal.
Addressing the gathering, the President said climate change is deeply intertwined with biodiversity loss, water stress, land degradation, food security, health, and livelihoods. She emphasised that a well‑structured framework of policies and actions is essential, involving governments, legal experts, and communities most affected.
She underlined the importance of traditional knowledge systems and community practices in enhancing adaptation capacity. “We must strengthen climate resilience through people‑centric and community‑based approaches rooted in traditional knowledge,” she said.
Highlighting sustainable afforestation, she noted that the true objective is not merely planting trees but restoring healthy, self‑sustaining ecosystems aligned with local biodiversity.
The President stressed that developing countries must balance resilience with development needs, ensuring commitments to climate action remain feasible and aligned with economic aspirations.
She praised India’s efforts in fostering environmental awareness, citing the Mission LiFE initiative, which has demonstrated the power of public participation and community ownership in ecological restoration.
Murmu appreciated the National Green Tribunal for bringing together experts, judges, and stakeholders from across the world, expressing confidence that the deliberations will pave the way for inclusive, climate‑resilient societies.
