India aims to expand its medal tally on the second day of the Asian Games 2026 on Monday, with key events in shooting, mixed martial arts and several team sports featuring prominently.
Following an opening day that produced two silver medals in shooting, the Indian team will compete in the men’s 10m air rifle event, where Himanshu Dhillon, Parth Mane and Rudrankksh Patil will participate in qualification and the team final. The individual final is scheduled for 9 am IST, subject to qualification.
Mixed martial artist Suchika Tariyal is set to face Singapore’s Teo Hui Hoon in the women’s traditional 60kg semifinal at 8 am Having secured a medal by reaching the semifinals after defeating Mongolia’s Altanchimeg Baigalmaa, Suchika will aim to advance to the final and contend for gold.
The Indian women’s hockey team will play Indonesia in their second Pool B match at 9:30 am, looking to build on their 19-0 victory over Uzbekistan on the first day. Both the men’s and women’s kabaddi teams will commence their campaigns; the men’s team faces Japan at 9:45 am, while the women’s take on Bangladesh at 4:15 pm
India’s table tennis teams will also compete against Pakistan in Group F matches, with the women’s team playing at 6:15 am and the men’s team at 3:30 pm The women began their campaign with wins over Indonesia and Singapore, while the men opened with a 3-0 victory against Indonesia followed by a 0-3 loss to Iran.
The day begins early for Indian athletes, with competitions in soft tennis, wushu, sepak takraw, shooting and swimming scheduled from 5:30 am onwards. Notably, the men’s and women’s skeet shooting events start at 6:30 am, featuring Mairaj Khan, Anant Jeet Singh Naruka, Bhavtegh Singh Gill for the men and Parinaaz Dhaliwal, Raiza Dhillon, Maheshwari Chauhan for the women.
In swimming, Rishabh Das and Srihari Nataraj will compete in the men’s 50m backstroke heats at 6:32 am, while Mani Akash and Gitesh Shah will participate in the men’s 50m freestyle heats shortly thereafter. Dhanush Suresh is scheduled for the men’s 100m breaststroke heats at 7:06 am
The men’s badminton team faces Bangladesh in the first round at 11:30 am In boxing, Sumit will contest the men’s 70kg round of 32 at 2:45 pm against Bunjong Sinsiri.
India currently stands tenth in the medal rankings with two silver medals from the opening day. China leads the table with 20 medals, including 11 gold, followed by hosts Japan with 20 medals, six of which are gold.
