New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has intensified action in the case of fake Indian currency worth Rs 17.29 crore recovered from the currency chest of Punjab National Bank located in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. The investigating agency has arrested two more key accused Mukesh Kumar and Rajendra Kumar linked to the conspiracy. Both are said to be close associates of the main accused Aadesh Choudhary, who was arrested earlier.
Accused of being involved in an alleged conspiracy
According to NIA, Mukesh Kumar is a resident of Hasanpur Kadim village of Saharanpur, while Rajendra Kumar is a resident of Kalyanpur village. Both are accused of being involved in an alleged conspiracy to circulate fake notes through the PNB currency chest located at Civil Lines, Saharanpur.
Information received regarding recovery of fake notes
The case had created a sensation on August 29 when Sadar Bazar police station received information that fake notes worth Rs 17.29 crore had been recovered from the currency chest. During the investigation, the role of three employees of the bank also came to light, after which the bank suspended them.
Police registered the case first
The police had earlier registered a case, which the NIA took over on September 3 and registered it again. Earlier, the agency had arrested Amit Kumar on 7 September and Aadesh Chaudhary on 15 September. Now NIA is busy unraveling the layers of the entire conspiracy and reaching other accused and suspects.
