Indian shooters Himanshu Dhillon and Rudraksh Patil won back-to-back silver and bronze medals in the men's 10m air rifle individual event at the Asian Games. Sheng Lihao of China won the gold medal in a close match.
He took an early lead in the first series with 52.8 points and increased his lead by 1.1 points in the second series with 53.2 points. Himanshu was also in the medal race and had reached second place for some time.
After 12 shots, Rudraksh was leading with 127.4 points, while Himanshu was second with 126.6 points and Sheng Lihao was third with 126.3 points.
After 16 shots, Sheng took the lead with 168.8 points, while Rudransh and Himanshu were tied with 168.6 points. Then Himanshu reduced his lead to just 0.1 points by shooting a brilliant 10.9, but in the very next shot he came at third place with 9.8. However, he made a strong comeback with 10.6 points and maintained his place in the medal race.
After 20 shots, Sheng increased his lead by one point. Rudransh and Himanshu were second and third respectively with 210.6 and 210.0 points.
After this the competition became very exciting. After 22 shots, Rudransh crashed out with 230.9 points, while Himanshu was just 0.1 points behind with 231.0 points. Earlier, Rudraksh's 9.7 points cost him dearly and he had to be content with a bronze medal.
Both scored 10.6 in the final shot, but Sheng won the gold medal with a total score of 233.0. Himanshu won the silver medal with a score of 231.0.
With this result, India achieved a double success by winning silver and bronze medals in the men's 10m air rifle individual event.
Earlier, the Indian team of Rudraksh, Parth Mane and Himanshu Dhillon had also won the silver medal in the men's 10m air rifle team event. India scored 1890.1 points, while China won the gold medal with 1899.0 points and South Korea won the bronze medal with 1841.4 points.
