According to the new instructions issued by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, it has now been made completely mandatory to undergo Biometric Aadhaar Authentication (BAA) to book gas cylinders at subsidized prices. What is going to change from October 1?
Under this new rule of the government, domestic LPG consumers who have not yet completed their biometric Aadhaar authentication may face a big shock from October 1, 2026. However, it is a matter of relief that about 89.9 percent of the country i.e. about 27.43 crore active LPG consumers have already completed this work till September 19.
If you have not completed this process yet, it does not mean that you will stop getting gas. Those customers who have not done B Double A (BAA), will continue to get LPG cylinders, but the biggest change will be that they will have to buy the cylinder directly at the current market price without any subsidy. The government has given the reason behind implementing this strict rule that the benefit of subsidy should reach only the eligible and needy families and also the illegal use of domestic cylinders for commercial or industrial purposes can be completely stopped.
Easy ways to complete biometric authentication
If you have not done your biometric authentication yet, there is no need to panic. You can complete this process very easily by following the steps given below:
- Delivery Time: Whenever the gas cylinder is delivered to your home, you can get this process completed through the delivery man.
- By going to the distributor: You can also get your biometric authentication done by directly visiting the showroom of your LPG gas distributor.
- Through mobile apps: This work can also be done from home by using the official mobile apps of oil marketing companies. For example, Indane customers can easily complete authentication through the 'Indian Oil ONE' app, Bharatgas customers through 'HelloBPCL' and HP Gas customers through the 'HP PAY' app.
Customers who do not wish to undergo authentication can register their preference through the digital channels of their oil marketing company. Such customers will get the cylinder, but its price will be completely at the market price.
How much subsidy is available on LPG?
The government has been continuously providing financial assistance to keep domestic LPG affordable and cheap for the general public. According to the data of September 2026, the subsidy or financial assistance available on a 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder is estimated to be around Rs 210. The government has also informed that Rs 30,000 crore is being paid as compensation in the financial years 2026 and 2027 to compensate for the losses incurred by domestic gas companies. Therefore, to avoid any kind of financial loss, get your biometric authentication completed before October 1.
