From October 1, 2026, it has been made mandatory to undergo Biometric Aadhaar Authentication to book gas refill at regulated subsidized price. How many people have completed this process?
According to the latest data of the ministry, crores of consumers of the country have already completed this process. According to the data till September 19, a total of 27.43 crore active domestic LPG consumers in the country i.e. about 89.9 percent have successfully completed biometric authentication. Consumers who have already completed this process do not need to take any further action.
What is going to change from October 1?
Under this new rule of the government, consumers who have not completed the biometric Aadhaar authentication will be able to book LPG cylinders even after October 1 and will get the cylinder, but the biggest shock is that they will have to pay the full market price applicable without subsidy. However, it is a matter of relief that the Ministry has clarified that after completing the authentication process, consumers will again be able to avail the benefit of subsidized refill price.
The main objective of this stringent step taken by the government is to ensure that subsidized LPG cylinders reach only eligible households. Through this, illegal use of domestic cylinders for commercial and industrial use can be stopped. It also aims to identify and eliminate fake, duplicate and ineligible LPG connections from the system.
How much will be the impact on subsidy and how to book?
Consumers who are not able to complete this process by October 1 will continue to get cylinders, but the subsidy on them will be stopped. Such consumers can easily register their choice or booking through the official website of oil marketing companies, mobile app, WhatsApp chatbot and IVRS service.
It has also been informed by the Ministry that the Government is continuously providing financial assistance to keep domestic LPG affordable for the general public. In September 2026, the subsidy on 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder was around Rs 210. In such a situation, customers who have not yet completed their biometric Aadhaar authentication are advised to complete the process before the deadline of October 1 so that their subsidy is not stopped.
