What is the political history of Amroha Sadar seat?
The first election for Amroha Sadar assembly seat was held in 1957. In the current political picture, this seat has been a seat with strong influence of Samajwadi Party. Mehboob Ali has been winning elections from this seat since 2002 and has won the last four elections on SP ticket. In the 2022 assembly elections, Mehboob Ali defeated BJP's Ram Singh by about 71 thousand votes. Mehboob Ali got 1,28,735 votes, while Ram Singh got 57,699 votes. There were a total of 3,13,755 voters in Amroha assembly constituency in 2022. These included 1,64,096 male and 1,49,640 female voters. There was 71.54 percent voting in that election.
Why is the example of Yusuf Pathan important in Bengal?
The example of West Bengal also comes to the fore in this connection between cricket and politics. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Trinamool Congress had fielded former cricketer Yusuf Pathan as its candidate from Baharampur. Pathan secured 5,24,516 votes in the election and defeated Adhir Ranjan Choudhary of Congress by a margin of 85,022 votes. That is, the party directly fielded a face with cricket popularity and he was successful in winning the election in Baharampur. This is the reason why the example of Yusuf Pathan is also being cited amid the discussion about Shami's possible political entry in UP. However, the circumstances and local political equations of both the elections are different.
