On Wednesday, the Indian Embassy in Oman said that a ship named MV Cape Dao was heading towards India very close to the Strait of Hormuz. At least two torpedoes hit the ship at that time. An Indian sailor aboard the ship has been reported dead. A total of 19 Indian sailors were on the ship. The Indian Embassy is in touch with the Oman administration to know the status of the rest. The identity of the dead sailor, however, has not been disclosed by the Indian embassy.
The seamen's organization 'Forward Seamen's Union of India' informed that the dead seaman's name is Suraj Yadav. He is a resident of Deoria in Uttar Pradesh. The organization claims that there were not 19 but 20 Indian sailors on board the MV Cape Dao. A total of 28 sailors were on the ship. Two torpedoes hit the ship. One hit the C-deck accommodation area, while the other hit the hull near the engine room, the seamen's association said.
Note that the war in the Middle East started on February 28. As a result, the Strait of Hormuz, the world's energy artery, remains blocked. However, 60 India-bound cargo ships have crossed the Strait of Hormuz amid the volatile situation. 3,972 Indian sailors have been repatriated from the dangerous Gulf region. But the Union Ministry of Shipping said that 10 sailors died. Now another name has been added to that list. However, it is not yet known if any other Indian died in the torpedo attack.
