The Finance Ministry has started its official preparations for the Union Budget 2027-28 at full speed. In this regard, the complete schedule of Pre-Budget Meetings, which will last for a month from 12th October to 13th November, has been released. The main objective of these important meetings to be held under the chairmanship of the Secretary, Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance is to completely finalize the Revised Estimates (RE) for the current financial year 2026-27 and the Budget Estimates (BE) for the next financial year 2027-28.
Strict instructions have been given by the Ministry to all the Central Ministries and Departments to submit all their necessary financial data and expenditure proposals by October 6 under any circumstances. This time, the entire focus of the government will be on strictly controlling wasteful expenditure, increasing non-tax revenue and proper and rational allocation of funds for welfare schemes related to the public. This budget, to be presented on 1 February 2027, will be the fourth budget of the Modi 3.0 government, which will play a very important role in giving a new direction to the country's economic pace and financial discipline.
Big preparations for the budget will start from October 12
The Finance Ministry is going to start a month-long pre-budget meetings from October 12 as part of the preparations for the Union Budget for the upcoming financial year 2027-28. According to the official notice issued by the budget department of the ministry, these meetings will begin from October 12 under the chairmanship of the Expenditure Secretary to discuss the Revised Estimates for FY 2026-27 and Budget Estimates for 2027-28 in respect of grants and appropriations.
This information has already been sent to all the ministries and departments of the country, including the complete schedule of meetings with the Department of Expenditure. The Ministry has also made it clear that this entire program has been prepared keeping in mind the different needs and priorities of all the departments so that all the work can be completed smoothly on time.
Marathon meetings will continue till November 13, budget will be presented on February 1
According to the schedule released, all ministries and departments will have to submit necessary and concrete information for the meetings by October 6, 2026. According to the decided programme, these meetings will continue till November 13. After the complete completion of these pre-budget meetings, the budget estimates for the financial year 2027-28 will be provisionally finalized.
According to the rules, this much-awaited budget for the upcoming financial year 2027-28 is likely to be presented on February 1 only. This will be the fourth budget of the third term of the Narendra Modi government. In this budget, it is expected that special emphasis will be laid on carrying forward major reforms to further accelerate the country's economic growth, creating bumper employment and new measures to strengthen domestic demand.
