Indian men’s hockey team, continuing its brilliant performance in the Asian Games 2026, defeated South Korea by a huge margin of 8-2 in the Pool-A match. From the beginning of the match, the Indian players maintained an aggressive stance and by halftime they had taken a huge lead of 5-0. Throughout the match, the Korean defense looked completely helpless in front of the Indian front line. With this resounding victory, India has also set a new record for its biggest win in terms of goal difference against Korea in the history of the Asiad.
India dominated in the first half itself: took lead by scoring half a dozen goals
India scored a flurry of goals right from the first quarter of the match. In the fourth minute, Shilanand Lakra opened India’s account by scoring a field goal, immediately after which in the ninth minute, Sukhjit Singh showed excellent coordination and made the score 2-0. In the 11th minute, captain Harmanpreet Singh converted his patent penalty corner to put the team ahead 3-0. Just one minute later, Abhishek scored a goal in the 12th minute and Dilpreet Singh in the 26th minute, taking India’s score to 5-0 at halftime.
Dilpreet and Abhishek scored two goals each, Rajinder scored the eighth goal in the last minute.
After halftime, in the 32nd minute of the third quarter, Dilpreet Singh and in the 38th minute Abhishek scored their second goal of the match. The first goal for Korea was scored by Kim Jaeho in the 42nd minute, due to which the score remained 7-1 till the third quarter. In the last quarter, Korea’s Kim Youngbok made the difference 7-2 by scoring a goal in the 52nd minute, but India’s Rajinder Singh scored the final goal in the 60th minute to seal the score board at 8-2. Now India will face Japan in the next match of the pool stage.
64 year old record broken, for the first time in history 10 goals were scored in a match
This is India’s biggest win so far in the Asian Games in terms of goal difference (6 goals) in men’s hockey against South Korea. Earlier, India had defeated Korea 5-0 in the 1962 Jakarta Asian Games. Additionally, this is the first time that a men’s hockey match held between India and South Korea has resulted in a total of 10 goals (8-2). Earlier, the score of the matches with highest goals between the two teams was 5-3.
India’s journey so far in Asian Games 2026: Total 15 medals including 1 gold
The Indian contingent has so far won a total of 15 medals (1 gold, 6 silver and 8 bronze) in this Asiad, with which India is ranked 14th in the medal table. The only gold medal for India has been won by the women’s cricket team. The dominance of Indian shooters has been seen in shooting, from where maximum 8 medals (4 silver, 4 bronze) have come. Apart from this, Mirabai Chanu in weightlifting and Roshibina Devi in Wushu have brought glory to the country by winning silver medals.
