Hyderabad, Sept 25: Fifteen years of running, thousands of stories and countless moments of determination, celebration and community came alive today as the NMDC Hyderabad Marathon 2026, organised in collaboration with Goethe-Zentrum Hyderabad, inaugurated “Beyond the Finish Line — 15 Years of Hyderabad Marathon”, a special photographic exhibition celebrating the marathon’s remarkable journey.
The especially curated photo exhibition is formally inaugurated on Thursday in the presence of the Hyderabad Runners Society members, running community and photo enthusiasts.
The Exhibition is open until October 5th. It will be open to visitors formally from September 25 to October 5, 2026, at Goethe-Zentrum Hyderabad. The public at large are requested to make use of this opportunity to check out the pics on the display. The organisers also would like to appeal to public, fitness freaks, aspiring runners, marathoners, those who strive to lead an active lifestyle must visit the exhibition and draw inspiration.
Amita Desai, Founder Director & Executive Director, Goethe-Zentrum Hyderabad and Honorary Consul of the Federal Republic of Germany, described the collaboration as a one-of-a-kind initiative extending beyond Goethe-Zentrum Hyderabad’s cultural engagements. She shared that being part of the NMDC Hyderabad Marathon 2026 felt like being part of a “sea of humanity” – an event where the city comes together to make it happen.
Reflecting on the marathon experience, she highlighted three key lessons: taking charge of one’s health and life; moving from confusion towards clarity and purpose; and discovering resilience while being part of a diverse and motivated community.
She further reflected that Hyderabad Runners has helped make Hyderabad a city of health, environmental consciousness, joy and collective consciousness.
Rajesh Vetcha, Founder & Mentor, Hyderabad Runners, highlighted that the organisation’s vision extends beyond physical health to overall wellbeing, with the aim of making an active lifestyle a part of everyday life for the citizens of Hyderabad.
Reflecting on the 15-year journey, he noted that the exhibition celebrates 15 years through 15 photographs, alongside countless entries and stories that have contributed to one of Hyderabad’s largest community-driven events.
The exhibition, inaugurated at Goethe-Zentrum Hyderabad, Banjara Hills, brings together a curated selection of photographs from the recently concluded Hyderabad Marathon Photo Contest. The photographs capture the many dimensions of the marathon—from the excitement at the starting line and the intensity of the race to the emotions at the finish line and the moments that often go unnoticed behind the scenes.
More than a sporting event, the Hyderabad Marathon has evolved into a celebration of people, perseverance and the spirit of Hyderabad. The exhibition seeks to tell that larger story through photographs that showcase runners, volunteers, supporters, photographers and the city itself.
A Marathon Beyond the Finish Line
Over the past 15 years, Hyderabad Marathon has created a platform where people from different backgrounds come together with a common purpose—to run, participate, support and celebrate.
The exhibition looks beyond race timings, medals and finishing positions to highlight the human stories that give a marathon its meaning.
From a runner pushing through the final kilometre to a volunteer offering encouragement, from families cheering along the route to photographers capturing fleeting emotions, every photograph reflects a different facet of the marathon experience.
The exhibition also celebrates Hyderabad as an active and vibrant city, with its roads, landmarks, neighbourhoods and people becoming an integral part of the marathon journey.
Photography Captures What Statistics Cannot
While marathon statistics can measure registrations, kilometres and finishing times, photography captures something numbers cannot—the emotion of the moment.
The photographs displayed at the exhibition document the transformation of the Hyderabad Marathon over the years while also preserving intimate moments of joy, struggle, determination, camaraderie and celebration.
The recently concluded photo contest received entries that reflected the marathon from different perspectives, allowing photographers to interpret the event not merely as a race but as a story unfolding across the city.
The exhibition offers runners, photography enthusiasts, members of the public and the wider Hyderabad community an opportunity to revisit the marathon’s journey through the eyes of photographers and discover the stories that exist beyond the finish line.
NMDC Hyderabad Marathon 26 is a World Athletics Label Race recognised race. And it is India’s first marathon to receive the prestigious World Athletics Silver Sustainability Award.
