The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have made a major change to their coaching setup, appointing Zaheer Khan as the new head coach.
The franchise has appointed the former Indian pacer as CSK’s head coach on September 21, 2026. The decision comes after Stephen Fleming decided to part ways with the franchise after a long coaching stint with the five-time champions.
Fleming had been associated with CSK since the inaugural season of IPL 2008 and became the team’s head coach in 2009. Under his leadership, Chennai enjoyed sustained success, including multiple IPL titles.
However, the franchise missed the playoffs for three consecutive seasons, including the 2026 campaign, which triggered a major change in the coaching setup.
The future of Michael Hussey, Eric Simmons, Sridharan Sriram, James Foster and Rajiv Kumar remains subject to confirmation from the franchise.
The coaching transition comes at a crucial stage for CSK, who will look to rebuild after three successive seasons with a playoffs appearance.
Despite Zaheer’s appointement has been confirmed, the franchise has not yet announced the complete coaching team that will work alongside him in IPL 2027.
Zaheer will now be tasked with overseeing the team’s cricketing structure as Chennai prepare for the next IPL campaign.

CSK Head Coach for IPL 2027
Zaheer Khan has been appointed as the CSK’s head coach for the IPL 2027 season. He will be replacing the outgoing Stephen Fleming for the upcoming season.
The fast bowler who represented India in 92 Tests, 200 ODIs, and 17 T20Is moved to coaching and management roles in the IPL after his international retirement.
Zaheer previously worked with Mumbai Indians in management and player development positions before joining Lucknow Super Giants as a mentor. His experience across aspects of franchise cricket will now be part of CSK’s new setup.
IPL 2027 CSK Batting Coach
Former Australian cricketer Michael Hussey is the batting coach of the Chennai Super Kings for the IPL 2027 season. Hussey was appointed as CSK’s batting coach in January 2018 and remains the batting coach of the Chennai-based IPL franchise to date.
Michael Hussey also played for Chennai Super Kings between 2008 and 2013. Later in 2014, he played for the Mumbai Indians but returned to Chennai the following season.
IPL 2027 CSK Bowling Coach
Chennai Super Kings has signed former Indian all-rounder Sridharan Sriram, who has been appointed as the assistant bowling coach ahead of the IPL 2025 and will continue in his duties for the 2027 season, while Eric Simons will remain as the bowling consultant for the franchise.
