Tezzbuzz Desk – Former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and National President of Samajwadi Party Akhilesh Yadav has targeted Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar without naming him. Akhilesh Yadav posted on social media platform Now one vote of one country… corrupt 'Muchua' should resign! Gen-Z and the aware public are very intelligent to understand the rest of the meaning.
Akhilesh Yadav's comments come at a time when a report in 'The Indian Express' has claimed differences within the Election Commission between Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and two other Election Commissioners. According to the report, Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi lodged written objections on certain decisions and procedures at least 14 times in the last 10 months.
The report said that both the Election Commissioners raised questions on several issues including changes in Form-6 of new voters, decisions related to voter list and centralization of access to electoral data. In one case the change was even described as 'unauthorized' and 'illegal'.
After this report came out, opposition leaders have raised questions about the Election Commission and the Chief Election Commissioner. Earlier too, Akhilesh Yadav had raised questions on the functioning of the Election Commission and said that if the members of an independent institution do not have the freedom to work impartially or are not heard, then it is a serious situation for democracy.
Akhilesh Yadav had also said that betraying democracy by some people by becoming puppets of power is a serious constitutional crime and the Supreme Court should take suo motu cognizance of this matter.
At the same time, the Election Commission, in its response to the report of 'The Indian Express', has said that different views and comments within the Commission are a normal part of the decision process of any institution. The Commission said that all its decisions in the last one year have been taken on the basis of unanimous decisions of the Full Commission.
The term 'Munh Nuchua' was used to refer to a rumor spread in North India, especially Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, during the 1990s and 2000s. At that time, there was such fear among the people that some unknown person would scratch people's faces at night. Akhilesh Yadav has used this old reference in his 'Chunav Muchua' jibe.
