Jharkhand Medical Colleges: The government has started taking major steps to expand the scope of medical education and strengthen health services in the medical colleges of the state. Along with increasing MBBS and PG seats in colleges, a complete plan is being made to provide necessary buildings, equipment and deployment of qualified teachers. Additional Chief Secretary of Health Department, Ajay Kumar Singh held an important review meeting with the principals of all medical colleges in this regard. During the meeting, he gave clear instructions that a concrete action plan for the coming three years should be prepared and submitted to the department within a week, so that the work of increasing seats and creation of necessary posts can progress rapidly.
Reorganization of posts according to seats
As the number of seats in colleges increases, the need for professors, doctors, nurses and other technical personnel will also increase in the same proportion. In view of this, the Health Department has decided to start the process of restructuring of all posts. Principals have been asked to properly assess the future requirements and prepare the complete draft on that basis. If human resources along with infrastructure are not mobilized in time, it may be difficult to meet national level standards. Therefore, the department wants that the complete preparation of the staff should be visible on the ground even before formal permission is given to increase the seats.
New ways to overcome the shortage of teachers
The issue of shortage of doctors on academic posts was raised prominently in the review meeting. On this, the Additional Chief Secretary directed that if regular recruitment is taking time, then appointment should be made immediately on contract basis as per requirement. Apart from this, it was also suggested to take the services of retired specialist doctors to ensure high quality education in the state. It has also been asked to explore possibilities of inviting qualified professors from big cities and other states outside the state. The department believes that with the addition of experienced and expert teachers, the standard of education in colleges will improve significantly.
Nationwide publicity and walk in interview
Advertisements related to the appointment will be widely publicized across the country to attract eligible candidates. With this, experienced professors, associate professors and assistant professors from other states will also be inspired to come here and provide their services. To make the recruitment process easier and faster, instructions have been given to conduct walk-in interviews at regular intervals. With this, qualified doctors can be selected directly without any lengthy process and the vacant chairs of teachers in colleges can be filled soon.
Dhanbad College's big goal
During the review, the outline of its future plans was presented by Shaheed Nirmal Mahato Medical College, Dhanbad. The college management has set a target till the year 2030, under which there are preparations to increase 250 MBBS seats and 200 PG seats. Taking this proposal seriously, the Additional Chief Secretary directed that a new outline of academic and non-academic posts should be prepared on the basis of this goal. Plans to increase seats in the five major medical colleges of the state have already been approved, work on which is now being taken forward in a phased manner.
Studies will start soon in Bokaro and Chaibasa
The progress of the under-construction Bokaro and Chaibasa Medical Colleges was also reviewed in the meeting. Officials said that the construction work of the buildings of both the colleges is going on at a fast pace and it is expected that they will be completely ready by next year. Additional Chief Secretary said that if the construction work is completed on time and necessary teachers and other resources are collected, then every possible effort will be made to start the new session of studies in these two colleges from next year itself. With this, students of the state will get more opportunities to study medicine in their own home state and health facilities in remote areas will also be better.
