The former Indian opener eventually finished the innings at a strike rate of 146.97, making the Indore ground a venue for celebrations.
His innings was particularly significant as it came after Sachin Tendulkar scored an ODI double century. Sehwag's 219 temporarily raised the bar even higher.
India eventually scored 418/5, with Sehwag's long innings providing the foundation for a huge total.
Even years later, 219 remains the highest individual score ever in an India–West Indies ODI.
2. Rohit Sharma – 162
Rohit Sharma is in second place, who played a brilliant inning of 162 runs in 137 balls against West Indies at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on 29 October 2018.
Rohit's innings included 20 fours and four sixes, due to which his strike rate was 118.24.
The Mumbai batsman took his time in the beginning and then gradually increased the pace. Once he settled down, Rohit hit boundaries regularly and controlled the second half of the innings.
His ability to convert starts into big scores was already a highlight of his ODI career. 162 was another example of how he can dominate an attack once established.
Rohit's performance helped India post a strong total and underlined his status as one of the most prolific ODI batsmen of his generation.
3. Virat Kohli – 157 not out
Virat Kohli At the third position, he played an unbeaten inning of 157 runs in 129 balls against West Indies at the ACA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam on 24 October 2018.
Kohli hit 13 fours and four sixes, and his strike rate was 121.70.

The first West Indies batsman on the list is Desmond Haynes, who scored an unbeaten inning of 152 runs from 126 balls against India at Bourda, Georgetown on 21 March 1989.
Haynes hit 12 fours and six sixes, giving him a strike rate of 120.63.
At the time, this innings was an excellent display of controlled aggression. Haynes was one of the leading opening batsmen of his era and was known for combining powerful strokeplay with patience.
His unbeaten 152 stood as the highest individual score in India–West Indies ODIs for more than two decades.
It was only when Sehwag scored 219 runs in 2011 that Haynes' record was finally broken.
Haynes' staying in the top two for so long reflects the longevity of his record-setting performances.
5. Shivnarine Chanderpaul – 149 not out
Shivnarine Chanderpaul joins the top five with his unbeaten inning of 149 runs from 136 balls against India at the VCA Ground, Nagpur on 21 January 2007.
The left-handed batsman hit 16 fours and three sixes during his brilliant innings, and his strike rate was 109.55.
Chanderpaul was known for his unusual posture, extraordinary concentration and ability to remain at the crease for long periods. His 149* displayed those qualities, while also showing that he was capable of pushing the pace when necessary.
This innings came in an era when West Indies still had many experienced players who were capable of challenging India's bowling attack.
Although Chanderpaul fell just short of a century, his unbeaten innings remains one of the finest individual performances in this historic ODI rivalry.
