Desk : At least 14 people have died after a military plane crashed in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Two senior military officers are also among the dead. The head of the military court, Lieutenant General Mutombo Katlayi Tiende, and the Auditor General of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Bakumi Likulya, also lost their lives in the accident.
Let us tell you that Congolese military spokesperson Major General Efomi Ekenge issued a statement saying that apart from the two senior officers, 12 members of the delegation and crew members were also killed in the accident. According to local officials, everyone on board the plane has died.
It was reported that the military plane was returning from southwestern Kikwit to the capital Kinshasa. Meanwhile, the plane developed a technical fault and it crashed in Kenge on the way. After the accident, there was chaos in the area and action related to relief and investigation was started. An investigation has been started to find out the cause of the accident. Civil Aviation Authority board chairman Tryphon Kin-Kiye Mulumba said the cause of the crash was currently unknown.
The Congolese army has fought against several rebel groups in the east. These also include the Rwanda-backed M23 rebel group. After the death of 14 people including two senior officers in a military plane crash, all eyes are on the investigation into the cause of the accident.
