Siwan. There is news of relief for the fish farmers of Bihar. To promote fisheries in the district and provide better market to the fish, NABARD has sanctioned a loan of Rs 195 crore to the Bihar government. This amount will be given under Fisheries and Aquaculture Infrastructure Development Fund (FIDF).
Facility from fish seed to cold storage
Under the project, there is a plan to develop fish seed production centers and hatcheries along with fish farming units in the district. Facilities like fish collection and unloading centres, cold storage and cold-chain will also be created. Apart from this, emphasis will also be laid on improving fish processing and packaging units, modern fish markets and transportation and marketing systems.
Expectation of increase in income of fish farmers
New facilities can help in safely storing the fish and transporting it to larger markets. With this, fish farmers are expected to get better prices for their produce. The project may also provide opportunities to cooperative societies, self-help groups and rural youth.
Opportunities for employment will also open
The work associated with processing, packaging, storage, transportation and sales is likely to increase with fish production. This can also create new employment opportunities at the local level. The objective of the project is to create modern and sustainable fisheries infrastructure in Siwan.
