Under the nationwide 'Swachhata Hi Seva 2026' (SHS) campaign, Mumbai Central Division of Western Railway has further intensified the activities related to cleanliness, waste management and public awareness. During the four-day campaign from 21st to 24th September 2026, various cleanliness activities were conducted at railway stations, coaching depots, carsheds, hospitals and railway colonies.
Civic bodies, voluntary organizations and passengers also participated along with railway employees in the campaign. Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway Mr. Vineet Abhishek According to the department, more than 10 tonnes of segregated waste was collected in the division during four days.
In this 6,300 kg wet waste, 3,700 kg dry waste, 83 kg special care waste and 47 kg sanitary waste Remained involved.
Under the rejuvenation campaign of Cleanliness Target Unit (CTU) at Coach Care Center in Surat, close 200 kg garbage was removed and handed over to Surat Municipal Corporation officials.. It has also been proposed to develop this cleared site as a park.
A massive cleaning campaign was also conducted in the carsheds located at Mumbai Central and Virar. During this period, the interiors, toilets, floors, fittings and external surfaces of the coaches were specially cleaned.
Public participation was also given importance in the campaign. Under the special door-to-door contact campaign conducted on 24 September 158 houses Access was made. Whereas in awareness programs related to home composting and waste management 140 people participated.
Through 'waste-to-art' creations made from railway scrap Reduce, Reuse and Recycle (3R) Message was given. Along with this, interactive painting competitions were also organized.

The welfare of sanitation workers was also given priority during the cleanliness campaign. Under 'Safai Mitra Suraksha Camp' initiative Health check up camp for sanitation workers in Virar and Dadar have been held.
Apart from this, Shramdaan and public awareness programs were organized at many stations including Surat, Umargam, Bhayandar, Gholwad, in which common people also actively participated.
