In New Delhi, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar held a meeting with Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi. This meeting has taken place at a time when reports of differences within the Election Commission regarding SIR have come to light. In the Indian Express report, it has been said that both the Election Commissioners have lodged objections 14 times in the last 10 months. However, the Election Commission has said that its decisions have been taken with the consent of the full commission.

In the meeting, there was also discussion on giving people a chance to express their views after the names were removed from the voter list during SIR. In case of voters who have received notice due to non-appearance of name map or any discrepancy in the records, the BLO will go to their homes and help them in collecting the necessary documents and uploading them on the Commission's portal. After this the concerned election officer will take a decision on the basis of the documents.
The Commission has also talked about strengthening the system for such people, who may generally face difficulty in accessing the documentary process. Arrangements will be made to set up help desks and special camps for people living in night shelters, labourers, poor and homeless citizens.
So far, more than 13.37 crore names have been removed from the draft voter lists of 30 states and union territories under SIR. This figure is of names removed from the draft list, hence it cannot be considered as the number of people excluded from the final voter list.
