Visakhapatnam. A surprising incident regarding the safety of girl students has come to light in Visakhapatnam district of Andhra Pradesh. In the hostel of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) located at Krishnapuram in Bheemunipatnam mandal, the braids of 10 girl students of class nine were cut off while they were sleeping at night. When the girl students came to know about this when they woke up in the morning, there was chaos in the hostel.
The incident is reported to have taken place on the night of 16 September. Six girl students were sleeping in one room and four in another room. When everyone woke up in the morning, they found their hair cut. Initially, it was feared that some outsider entered the hostel premises and cut the hair of the girl students while they were sleeping.
There is no trace of outsider's entry in the investigation
After getting information about the matter, the police team inspected the school premises and interrogated the girl students and people associated with the school. CCTV footage and other available evidence are being examined.
In the preliminary investigation, the police have not found any clear indication which could confirm the entry of an outsider into the hostel. During the investigation, the possible role of some girl students of the school itself has come to light. However, what was the reason behind hair cutting and who actually carried out the incident is not yet clear.
MLA reached the school and took information
After the incident, Bheemunipatnam MLA Ghanta Srinivas Rao reached KGBV and took information from the girl students, parents and school management. He insisted on a detailed investigation of the entire matter.
Police and administration are also investigating whether there was any lapse in the monitoring system of the hostel during night time. Along with questioning the girl students, CCTV footage and other evidence have also been made a part of the investigation.
Notice to principal and employees
After the incident, the Education Department has also initiated administrative action regarding the night monitoring system of the hostel. Show cause notices have been issued to the KGBV principal, two teachers on duty and the night-watch lady.
Counseling has also been done for the affected girl students. At present, the police and school administration are trying to find out the real reason behind the incident and the person or persons responsible. Only after the investigation is completed, it will be clear who had cut the hair of the girl students and for what purpose.
