New Delhi. An important meeting of the Election Commission was held in Delhi today amid opposition parties' opposition to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. In this meeting, along with CEC Gyanesh Kumar, both Election Commissioners Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi were also present. Many important decisions related to SIR were taken in this meeting, information about which has been given by the Election Commission through a press release. It has been decided in the meeting that during SIR, the BLOs will visit the homes of the people to whom notices have been sent and collect the documents and then upload them on ECINet for the decision of ERO. Such people do not need to call ERO/AERO office for hearing.

According to the Commission, if hearing is ensured by ERO in a particular case, it will be online. The voter can authorize any adult member of his family to attend the hearing in his place. Online hearing facilities will be improved. District Election Officers (DEOs) will set up help desks or set up special camps for people living in night shelters, labourers, poor, homeless people etc.
Time limit for filing and settlement of claims and objections extended
In view of the request received from CEO Delhi, the Commission has extended the deadline for filing claims and objections till October 30, 2026. The last date for notice and disposal of claims and objections has been extended to November 30, 2026. Similarly, in Maharashtra, the deadline for filing claims and objections has been extended till October 12, 2026. The deadline for notice and disposal of claims and objections has been extended till November 10, 2026.
To get your name added in the voter list, apply to the concerned ERO.
According to the Election Commission, SIR work has already been completed in 20 states/UTs, including Bihar and West Bengal. Any person whose name has been omitted during or after the SIR, and any individual (including youth or first-time voters), can apply to the concerned ERO for inclusion of his/her name in the voter list under the update process.
