According to media reports, US President Trump on Saturday rejected Iran's proposal and said that Iran wants to make a deal because it is “losing very badly.” “They want to make a deal and I think that's OK. I would like to make a deal too. But that deal would not be acceptable,” Trump told reporters outside the White House before leaving for a college football game.
Notably, Iran effectively closed the strait following the attack on it by the US and Israel in late February, and the number of ships passing through the waterway has declined significantly due to Iranian threats and attacks on ships in the waterway.
This week, Iran proposed to the US that if the US lifts the naval blockade of Iranian ports, ends sanctions on the sale of Iranian oil and implements a ceasefire, including in Lebanon, then it would reopen the strait and begin negotiations on its nuclear program.
Meanwhile, Iranian media reported that Iranian President Massoud Pezheshkian has left New York after a meeting of world leaders at the United Nations. The meeting also included Iran's indirect talks with the US.
