A major accident took place in Ambala, Haryana on Sunday. A three-storey building under construction in Dhulkot village suddenly collapsed, causing an outcry. Many laborers were working in the building at the time of the accident. Suddenly the entire structure was reduced to debris.
After the accident, local people immediately started relief efforts. Police and administration were informed. After this, teams of NDRF, SDRF, fire department, police and ambulance reached the spot. The help of JCB and other machines is being taken to remove heavy debris. Rescue workers are continuously trying to reach the people buried under the debris.
What is the whole matter?
- According to Ambala City SDM Darshan Kumar, bodies of two people have been recovered so far in the accident. Many injured have been taken to the hospital.
- Four injured have been discharged after treatment, while five people are currently undergoing treatment in the hospital. At present about 12 people have been identified.
- However, the exact number of how many people are trapped under the debris has not been revealed yet. Initial estimates suggest that 15 to 20 people may be buried.
- Considering the seriousness of the accident, the rescue operation is being continuously intensified. Rescue teams are slowly removing the debris and searching for people trapped inside, so that any living person can be taken out safely. Local administration teams are also present at the spot and are monitoring the entire operation.
- After the accident, questions are also being raised about the owner and contractor of the building. According to SDM, the owner of the building and the contractors involved in the construction work have left the spot and currently their information is being collected.
- Officials say that the documents related to the ownership and construction of the building are also being examined.
- SDM said that information is being collected about who is the owner of the building. At present, both the contractor and the building owner have left the site.
- At present it is not clear why the under-construction building collapsed. Was there any technical flaw in the construction, was there a lack in the quality of the construction material or was the structure weakened due to some other reason – this will be known only after investigation.
- The administration has said that appropriate legal action will be taken against whoever is found responsible for the accident.
- At present the priority is to safely rescue the people trapped under the debris and provide treatment to the injured.
However, in different media reports regarding the accident, the number of dead and trapped people has been stated to be different. Therefore, the final figure will be clear only after the administration and rescue operation is completed.
