Discussion on the relevance of sports literature
Chandigarh – Building a strong sports culture is essential to win medals in international games, and the contribution of sports literature in this is extremely important. These views were expressed by Olympic gold medalist and Dronacharya Award recipient Rajinder Singh Sr. in a function on 'Relevance of Sports Literature' organized at Punjab Kala Bhawan. The program was organized in collaboration with Bharatiya Sahitya Akademi, Delhi and Punjab Arts Council, Chandigarh.
Speaking as the chief guest, Rajinder Singh said that sports writers can make the society aware by writing on the shortcomings and problems of sports. He also said that a player achieves his goal through his hard work and struggle, and his hard work should be mentioned in the articles. On this occasion he also answered questions from the audience and was felicitated.
Famous journalist and writer Sarabjit Singh Dhaliwal, in his presidential address, threw light on many untouched aspects of sports literature. He told that in the early days of Olympics, literature was also a part of this sports festival and literary competitions were organized. He met Punjabi poet Prof. Recited poems written by Puran Singh on sports and presented translations of some poems written on sports in world literature.
Sports writer and Deputy Director of Public Relations Department Navdeep Singh Gill said that sports are an integral part of our lives. Referring to ancient sports, he said that the job of a sports writer is to encourage the winners and motivate the defeated players to move forward. He also discussed new forms of sports literature in the age of social media.
Dr. Sukhdarshan Singh Chahal, who is the first Ph.D. in Sports Literature. Holder, emphasized the importance of sports literature. He said that this literature preserves the history of sports and players. Young sports writer Mandeep Singh discussed the aspects of sports that teach cooperation and harmony.
Olympian Rajinder Singh Sr. was honored in this ceremony. The stage was moderated by Jagdeep Sidhu, who concluded the function with a poem written on sports. Many litterateurs, journalists and sports lovers were present on this occasion.
