India enjoyed another busy day at the 2026 Asian Games on Sunday, collecting five athletics medals while making significant progress in archery and boxing.
Sarvesh Kushare and Ancy Sojan won silver in the men’s high jump and women’s long jump respectively. Parul Chaudhary and Tejaswin Shankar added bronze medals, while Harita Bhadra also finished third in the women’s 200m.
Murali Sreeshankar and P David qualified for the men’s long jump final, while India’s women’s 4x100m relay team also advanced. Priyanka Goswami was disqualified from the women’s marathon race walk after four technical infractions, with Manju Rani finishing sixth.
India reached the semifinals in all six archery team events in action. The compound men’s, women’s and mixed teams, along with the corresponding recurve teams, all remained in medal contention.
Anahat Singh and Abhay Singh both won singles silver after losing their finals to Malaysia’s Sivasangari Subramaniam and Eain Yow Ng. Anahat became the first Indian woman to win an Asian Games singles silver.
In boxing, Parveen Hooda, Ankush Panghal and Narendar Berwal assured themselves of medals by reaching the semifinals. Sachin Siwach exited after losing to Japan’s Shunsuke Kitamoto.
India’s women’s hockey team beat Singapore 7-0 to finish the group stage strongly and reach the knockout phase. The men’s volleyball team opened with a 3-0 win over Vietnam, with Jerome Vinith scoring 15 points.
PV Sindhu, Unnati Hooda, Treesa Jolly-Gayatri Gopichand and Dhruv Kapila-Tanisha Crasto all lost their badminton quarterfinals, ending India's individual campaign without another medal.
In shooting, Esha Singh led India’s 25m pistol precision stage with 290, while Manu Bhaker and Rahi Sarnobat both shot 287. India sit third in the team standings ahead of Monday’s rapid stage.
India also had mixed results in surfing, sepak takraw, weightlifting, equestrian, fencing and kurash, while sailing action was delayed.
