A major tragedy has occurred due to the collapse of a 3-storey under-construction building in Dhulkot village of Ambala, Haryana. Two laborers have died due to being buried under the debris while many people are still reported to be trapped under the debris. Ambala city SDM Darshan Kumar said that this is a very sad incident and rescue work is going on at a fast pace. All teams including NDRF, SDRF, local ambulance services and fire brigade are deployed at the spot. Many people have been hospitalized so far. Four people have been discharged from hospital and five are undergoing treatment. Two dead bodies have been found. Rescue work is going on. There is no confirmed information on how many people are trapped inside.
The SDM said 15 to 20 people are estimated to be trapped under the debris, but nothing is certain yet. A total of 12 people have been identified so far, including those who have died. The identity of the owner of the building is not yet clear. The contractor and the owner of the building fled from the spot. Appropriate action will be taken against those responsible.
According to an official of the Dial 112 helpline, they received information about the collapse of the building and immediately rushed to the spot. Six workers were buried under the debris, the official said. One worker was rescued using a bulldozer and taken to hospital, while efforts are on to rescue the remaining victims.
Congress leader Kumari Shelja expressed grief over the incident. He said, “The tragic collapse of an under-construction building at Dhulkot village in Ambala is very sad. The news of the death of workers and injuries to many others is heartbreaking. My condolences are with the bereaved families. May the departed souls rest in peace and speedy recovery to the injured.” He appealed to the administration to take up immediate relief and rescue operations to safely evacuate every worker trapped in the debris and ensure proper treatment of the injured.
