Ujjain. Amidst the preparations for Simhastha-2028, the double bench of Indore High Court on Monday gave a big decision in the case related to Shahi Jama Masjid of Ujjain. Rejecting the petition of the Mosque Committee, the court refused to stop the action of removing part of the mosque for road widening. After the court's decision, the way has been cleared for the administration to proceed with road widening.
Talk of removing only three feet part
According to the mosque side's advocate, it was made clear in the court that only about three feet of the religious site would be removed. For this, an agreement has already been reached between Ujjain Municipal Corporation and Religious Place Committee.
Under the agreement, it has also come to light that FAR and TDR will be given in exchange for the part to be removed. On this basis the matter is being taken forward.
Road widening happening for Simhastha-2028
In view of Simhastha-2028 in Ujjain, work related to road widening and traffic arrangements is being done in many areas under the master plan. In this process, the constructions coming within the limits of the road are being removed.
A part of the Shahi Jama Masjid also came under the purview of the proposed road widening. The mosque committee had approached the court regarding the dispute related to this. Earlier, the single bench had also rejected the petition.
Action will proceed after the court's decision
After the decision of the double bench, the legal challenge on the process of removing the designated part of the mosque has ended. However, as per the consent given in the court, the action has been said to be limited to three feet area.
Earlier, there was a situation of tension in Ujjain regarding this matter. During the road widening operation, there was a clash and stone pelting between the police and the people, after which the police used tear gas to control the crowd.
